Vocational Discernment

As baptized Christians, we are all called to ministry in the Church. Some are called to lay ministries while others are called to ordained ministries. For some, their sense of vocation seems to come clearly and easily, while others must spend more time "figuring it out" with the help of others. Some are quick to communicate their sense of call to others, while others hesitate.

In the Episocpal Church, bishops and their respective Commissions on Ministry are responsible for assisting indiduals who feel called to the ordained ministries of the priesthood or vocational diaconate. The diocesan Commission on Ministry also deal with lay licensing, and the bishop licenses seven canonical lay ministries, some of which may require additional education and training. If you feel called to ordained or licensed lay ministry, please visit with your parish priest or call the bishop's office to get started!

Here we  offer you a number of articles and online resources that will help define and flesh out church  terms like vocation, call, discernment, and others.   In the future, this section will also contain articles about the contemporary diaconate and the priesthood.  All articles have been written by members of the BKSM community.
