The Diocese of Kansas was founded in 1859, two years before Kansas statehood. The diocese originally stretched to the Colorado border, but in 1901 it was divided, leaving the remaining diocese to cover the eastern 40 percent of the state. Its headquarters is in Topeka, the state capital.
